This analysis was developed by Michael E. Porter of Harvard University during 1979. Porters five forces can be used to develop strategies to reach the objective and to sustain in the market. Rivalry among competitors is high for Dell. Its major rivals are Apple Computer, Compaq, IBM, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics and Micron Electronics. Price war always exists between the competitors. There is low differentiation and high concentration in the market. Due more competition the profitability is low.
